An AI audit that shows what's working, what it costs and what's risky

Most businesses already use AI, often more than they realise. The AI Health Check looks at the tools, subscriptions and API spend you have, how your team really uses them and where the risks are, then gives you a short plan to keep what works and fix what doesn't.

Example

Tools, subscriptions and API spend listed
How your team really uses AI, by survey and logs
Risks checked: data, access and policy
A short report: keep, fix, stop and next

What Is an AI Audit?

An AI audit is a structured review of how your business uses artificial intelligence. It looks at which AI tools you pay for, who uses them, what data goes into them, what they cost and whether they're giving you real value. The AI Health Check is our AI audit for small and medium businesses.

It isn't the same as an internal audit of your finance procedures, and it isn't a certification. Think of it as an honest health check: a clear picture of where AI is helping, where it's wasting money and where it creates risk you didn't know about.

Most SMEs have adopted AI in pieces. One person pays for ChatGPT, another uses Copilot in Microsoft 365, a third tries Gemini in Google Workspace, and someone has connected an AI model to your CRM through Zapier or Make. Each choice made sense at the time. Together they rarely add up to a plan.

AI Audit vs AI Readiness Assessment

An AI readiness assessment asks whether your business is ready to start using AI: your data, systems, people and goals. An AI audit looks at the AI you already use. Many businesses need a bit of both, so the Health Check covers what's in place now and what's needed before you add more.

If you haven't started with AI yet, our free AI Readiness Check is the better first step. If you already have tools, subscriptions and API spend, an AI tools audit will tell you far more.

How the AI Audit Process Works

The audit process is short and practical. We do the evidence collection, and your team spends as little time on it as possible. AI + Experts + Your Data together beat any one on its own, so we use AI to speed up the analysis and a person to make the judgement calls.

1. Inventory every AI tool and system

We list every AI platform, licence, plug-in and API key in use, including cloud tools staff signed up to on their own. Billing records, admin consoles and a short staff survey usually find more than anyone expected.

2. Review usage, value and spend

For each tool we look at how many users really use it, what they use it for and what it costs. Duplicate tools, unused seats and API costs that have crept up are identified and priced.

3. Risk assessment and controls

We check where customer, staff or financial data meets AI, who has access, which security controls are switched on and whether your use fits UK GDPR. We also look at accuracy and reliability: where AI output feeds into decision making without a person checking it.

4. Governance and policy review

We compare your AI use policy, or the lack of one, against how people actually work. Good AI governance doesn't need to be heavy. For most SMEs it means a one-page policy, an approved tools list, clear owners and a simple way to raise concerns.

5. Reporting and next steps

You get a short written report and a call. Every finding sits in one of four columns: keep, fix, stop and next. The quick wins come first, so you can act the same week.

What an AI Tools Audit Checks

Every business is different, but most AI audits cover the same core areas. Here's an example of what we look at.

  • Tools and subscriptions: every licence, plan and seat, with duplicates found.
  • API and token spend: which models you call, how often, and where costs can come down.
  • Data and security: what goes into each tool, where it's stored and whether the provider uses it for training.
  • Access and controls: who can use what, single sign-on, admin settings and leavers' accounts.
  • Quality and accuracy: where generative AI output is checked, and where it isn't.
  • Transparency: whether customers are told when AI is used, where that matters.
  • Adoption: which teams get value and which have given up, and why.
  • Policy and guidance: what staff have been told, and whether it matches practice.

Why Small Businesses Need an AI Health Check

Large companies have audit teams, engineering teams and compliance departments. Most SMEs have none of these, yet they use many of the same AI tools. That's where small problems build up quietly: a forgotten subscription, a spreadsheet of customer details pasted into a free chatbot, an automation nobody owns any more.

An AI health check gives you confidence. You know what you pay for, what it does, and what to do next. It also gives the board or owners a clear view before any further AI development or deployment.

AI doesn't replace professional judgement

AI tools are a helpful assistant, not a substitute for professional judgement. Part of every audit is checking that people still review the work that matters, such as quotes, contracts, advice to customers and anything in finance.

Cost, Timings and What You Get

The AI Health Check is a fixed fee, quoted up front once we know how many tools and people are involved. Most audits take about two weeks from kick-off to report, with two short calls with your team.

At the end you get the written report, a prioritised improvement list and a recommended next step. That might be a policy, some training, a token optimisation project or simply cancelling tools you don't need. If you'd like continuous monitoring afterwards, our monthly support from £750 a month can keep an eye on spend, access and new tools each month.

FAQ

Common questions

Who is the Health Check for?

Businesses already paying for AI tools who want to know whether they're getting value and staying safe.

What do we get at the end?

A short written report and a call: what to keep, fix and stop, and what to do next.

How much does it cost?

It's a fixed fee, quoted up front once we know how many tools and people are involved.

What is an AI audit?

A structured review of the AI tools, data, spend and risks in your business, ending with a clear plan of what to keep, fix and stop.

Can AI do an audit?

AI can speed up parts of an audit, such as reading usage logs, sorting unstructured documents and spotting patterns in spend. A person still needs to judge risk and value, so we use both.

How can AI systems be audited?

By listing every tool and model in use, checking what data goes in and comes out, testing the accuracy of key outputs, reviewing access controls and comparing all of it with your policy.

What is an AI readiness assessment?

A check on whether your data, systems, people and goals are ready for AI. Our free AI Readiness Check takes about three minutes and is a good place to start.

What are the five pillars of AI readiness?

There's no single official list, but most frameworks cover strategy, data, technology, people and governance. The Health Check looks at all five as they apply to the AI you already use.
