What Is AI Automation?
AI automation refers to using artificial intelligence to carry out steps in your business processes that used to need a person to read, sort, decide or type. It connects the tools you already use and moves information between them, with your team checking the parts that matter.
Unlike traditional automation, which follows fixed rules, AI automation can handle messy inputs. Natural language processing lets it read an email, a PDF invoice or a voice note and work out what it says. Machine learning and AI models help it classify, score and draft. That's why it suits the repetitive tasks most small businesses still do by hand.
AI Automation Vs Traditional Automation
Traditional automation is good at tidy, predictable jobs: when a form is submitted, add a row to a spreadsheet. Robotic process automation (RPA) copies the clicks a person would make on screen. Both break when the input changes. AI automation adds judgement within limits, so it can cope with a new supplier's invoice layout or an enquiry written in a hurry. Intelligent automation, or intelligent process automation, usually means combining the two.
Where AI Agents Fit
AI agents are AI systems that can take several steps on their own, such as checking stock, drafting a reply and updating your CRM. They're useful for connected jobs, but we keep them on a short lead with clear limits, human agents ready to take over, and audit trails of what they did.
